How to Handle the first few weeks of a loved one entering Memory Care?

My 84 year old Mother was just admitted to a Memory Care Facility in CA. She has moderate to severe dementia for the past 2 years. This is her first time in a facility. She doesn't really understand why she has to stay there and does not believe she has dementia. This morning, after my Mom's first night there, the Director of the facility called me and said my Mom left the facility through the back door (it has an alarm but is not locked) because she wanted to go for a walk in the rain. They tried to get her back inside but they said they will not force her. They finally got her back in the lobby but she won't go back into the Memory Care Locked Unit. They said they won't make her.

I'm at a loss of how to deal with this. She's very angry and is telling everyone at the facility that she's going to sue them.

Anyone have any good suggestions for getting through these first weeks? She's very social and I think she'll be ok once she makes friends but this place just opened and she's one of only 2 residents so far (the other resident is bedridden/hospice).
