Mom has delusions,

My mom has Alzheimer's/dementia, diagnosed 3months ago she thinks people keep coming and living in her home. She is very sad and depressed over this. Also she just lost her husband in August. When she tells me about the people in her house she is so upset, I don't know what to say or do, any advice?

  • You need to get her into a memory care facility or assisted living facility that has memory care once she gets to that point, and it sounds like she is close to it.

My Mother would tell me about parties she gave last weekend (when it was many years ago) and would go on about how much fun everyone had. Then she would also call 911 and tell them to come to the house because a strange man was in her house (it was my Dad) she would even brandish a knife at him when the police were there! Then the night wandering started and strange men in trucks were picking her up trying to find out where she lived. Thank God they were all nice men and she was never hurt. There is too much bad out there to take chances with you Mother and you should visit facilities around you and see what you can she can afford and where they will take good care of her. I contacted A Place for Mom and it took 3 years to finally convince my Father and get her into it but it was well worth it.  My contact that helped me was so patient and kind and was even there when I had to move all their stuff out of their house and get it cleaned out so I could sell it.

Sheyna Dorfman is the lady that helped me. email her at: SheynaD@aplaceformom.com

Tell her Debi Thomas said hello and things are great with Mom & Dad now.
