How to get someone with onset of dementia to see a doctor?
My husband and I believe that his mother has the on set of dementia. She doesn’t remember where any one in the family lives. And she doesn’t really drive because she says she doesn’t remember how to get there. She is really nasty and thinks my husband is out to steal her money. She’s like a stranger to our kids and on occasion has made my oldest daughter, who she always claimed was her favorite cry. How do we get this person to see and doctor?

This is really hard, and sadly very common. Don’t argue or try to convince her she’s wrong. Instead, frame it as something routine (check-up, meds review, insurance requirement) so it feels non-threatening. You can also call her doctor ahead of time and share your concerns, they can guide the visit without confronting her directly. If she refuses and safety is an issue, you may need to involve a professional evaluation or step in legally, but start gently first.
