Best Braces to Wear for Hernia

I have small incisional hernia next to umbilical site. Learning to live with it and would rather not have surgery. Trying different braces to wear in daytime and/or to sleep in...this seems  confine the hernia and keep it from expanding. Staying active, but I avoid heavy lifting, etc. Would appreciate comments on best braces available on the market. Thanks

  • I have a ventral hernia in lower left abdomen following lap procedure after mastectomy. Muscle in stomach were used. I had 5 children and muscles just wouldn't hold after the procedure for breast implant.  I have contacted surgeon but it is not advisable since some abdominal veins were used in implant and surgery would compromise viability of implant. Hernia is not painful, just noticeable in some clothing and bothersome to me. What binder would be helpful ? I am very active. Just need some compression help to hold the abdomen without the bulging. Thank you.

  • I have tried several things for incisional hernia near belly button: Betty Mills has many choices for "abdominal binders" like hospitals put on patients after surgery. Sizing is important if you want good fit. I use a double tier binder most days... it's comfortable, covers from my waist to hip, and it's virtually undetectable under clothing. Also have standard back brace for serious activity. More expensive:  waist cincher/fitted corset also looks good under clothing. Good luck!
