Divorce and Dementia

I have a friend, who has dementia, she and her husband have had a wonderful long marriage.  Recently, I have noticed a change in her, her appetite has decreased dramatically, and she is very depressed, she has opened up to me, and states its because she can't stand her husband, and wants a divorce, I know this is not her but she cant get this out of her mind. I have not told him her thoughts, he just knows she is very depressed, and has made an appointment with their Dr.

  • My mother is the same way with her husband. It's so hard to hear them argue. I try to get them to understand it's not worth it. And they do say that with this disease they always seem to take it out on or attack the spouse the most.  Terrible disease.

Exactly referring to taking it out of the spouse, I asked the Neuropsychologists about that because I am the only one that works as an advocate for him and he is so abusive and has been for years or doesn't talk at all so I don't even know him now. The Neuro docs said that they choose the spouse because they feel safe. Funny because I don't feel safe with him.
