Elisabeth Murray - I found out about Cavilon's barrier cream from the adult day care center The Elderly Uncle was attending prior to The Plague. He had an outbreak of bullous pemphigoid with some big blisters on his perineum. It worked so well, but his VA doctor couldn't prescribe it (not in their formulary), but prescribed Aloe Vesta instead. That is okay, but nowhere near as elegant and effective a product as the Cavilon. So, I bought it for The Uncle myself.

During anal cancer treatment, I was hospitalized for neutopenic fever with near-zero neutrophils & lymphocytes and very low platelets due to chemo & radiation, I also had an enormously bad episode of watery stool - I could have filled several 50 gallon drums with the stuff. And due to the radiation, my perineum was dead-black, with painful, bloody peeling sheets of skin. The stools were so painful against that skin, that they made me scream loudly whenever I went even when pre-medicated with morphine - passersby would rush into my room to help me.

This hospital used the Remedy line of products. Their Olivamine Calazime Skin Protectant Paste with its hint of cooling menthol was a life-saver. The nurses also provided me with the wonderful Sage Barrier Cream Cloths to use instead of razor-blade-studded toilet paper. Soooooothing. These nurses and their products helped me through 2 hellish weeks.

Some medically-oriented facilities do provide excellent products.

Jay Evert  Oh My !  I'm sorry You had to go through that.  Its so awful what can happen to our bodies sometimes.  All the products You listed are wonderful products though.  Also its important for the skin to get air.  I'm a quadriplegic woman with complete double incontinence.  Often if I'm in bed during the day. It might be TMI but it really helps to just wear nothing and lay on a incontinence pad. As a quadriplegic bedsores or pressure sores are a real concern.  Spending most of My mornings without wearing a incontinence brief gives My skin a few hours to breath every day. And makes a real difference.
