  • Acid Reflux occurs when the stomach contents back up into the esophagus or mouth. It is a normal process that occurs in healthy adults, and children as well. Most of the time this has no consequence and is brief in nature.

However, some people with the condition have troubling symptoms, including heartburn, pain with swallowing and even vomiting. In this situation, the disease is called gastroesophageal reflux disease or shortened as GERD.

Treatments may include lifestyle changes which may include

    (1) Avoiding certain foods, including caffeine, chocolate, and acidic foods and drink

    (2) Sleeping with the LEFT SIDE down helps to improve emptying of stomach

    (3)Losing weight

Among the medicines that are available  to treat the condition include ,

(1)Proton Pump Inhibitors, such as  Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium

(2)Histamine Blockers, such as Zantac, Pepcid, Tagamet

(3)Antacids are commonly used for short-term relief of symptoms, they might include Tums, Maalox etc
